St. Patrick's Day Meal Planning

For some reason I am really looking forward to cooking up some real traditional Irish dishes for Saint Patrick's Feast Day.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the fun green foods, but something hearty (and non-dyed) is tugging at my stomach heart.

So how did we celebrate St. Patrick's Feast Day?

Well, St. Patrick's Day celebration is not complete without the traditional visit to the Fire-station to have the firemen serve us green pancakes (plus eggs, bacon & juice).  So, on Sunday we visited the Firehouse as we have for the past 12 years.  Everyone looks forward to this event.  I'm so glad the kids haven't tired of it...

Fancy centerpiece decorations:  Fire hose nozzles and boots with balloons attached.
Irish music playing in the background.  It's fun to sit inside the fire station and eat green pancakes.

Don't Forget:

For lunch, we thought we would celebrate St. Patrick's Feast Day by making Reuben (or as we call them, Faux Ruben) sandwiches, with a slight tweak...instead of Swiss cheese, we used pepper-jack.

After dinner, we enjoyed mint ice cream with brownie bits (I added a splash of Carolans Irish Cream on mine).  Little Lamb made some shamrock jigglers and helped to decorate a few festive drinking glasses.

We celebrate some feast days a lot differently these days...not a lot of crafts and activities.  It is mostly with special foods and decor and reading.  We really do enjoy celebrating the Church's calendar and feasts.  Everyday is a feast day...

Bringing out the GREEN...Inside & Out:

UPDATE:  Part of our family tradition is to make a visit to our local Fire station, which Hosts a Pancake Breakfast for St. Patrick's Day...we have participated in this fundraiser since Conductor was a little guy.  All three still very much enjoy going to the station and having the firemen serve GREEN pancakes!  Then we take a picture of our children in front of the various fire trucks they have on display...Little Lamb was the only one to climb into the cab of the big truck this year. 
I like to keep my children's anonymity here for the time being...I'm a weirdo that way. :o)

INSIDE:

It helps to have everything in it's own container...although, I do need to update with some teen friendly reading...

A little something for my First Communion Class who made their First Confession on St. Patrick's Feast Day...These wonderful note cards were from Paper Dali.  I found a couple sheets that I had printed already in my March file...so I only needed to print out one more sheet.

Hubby makes an incredible Corned Beef and cabbage dinner...

While dinner cooked, we sat the porch and listened to Irish tunes on Pandora...
